AI.Shuttle

AI.Shuttle is a research project focused on the study and application of artificial intelligence in computer vision, specifically in the context of autonomous driving.

The project was launched within FIPUlab at the Faculty of Informatics in Pula. Its primary goal is to bring together researchers, students, and industry partners and encourage the development of innovative AI solutions. The long-term objective is to build an autonomous vehicle capable of moving safely through urban environments while recognizing traffic signs, vehicles, and pedestrians.

The project is funded by Google through an RFP award program that supports innovative academic projects.

The project combines education, collaboration, and practical AI application. Students interested in applied artificial intelligence can join the project and work in three main directions:

  • training models on real traffic data collected in the city of Pula,
  • training models in a simulator, and
  • controlling a JetBot vehicle on a test track.

AI.Shuttle is still active and aims to establish an autonomous transport line between the two Juraj Dobrila University campuses in Pula. The planned route connects the University Center and the former Naval Hospital, which are roughly two kilometers apart.
